I received a number of suggestions for online calendars following my
request, so thought I should share a summary:
* Several people use Calendars.net
* One person uses Bravenet.com
* One person creates the schedule in Excel then pastes it into her web
page
* One person uses an Outlook calendar template and pastes it into her
web page
Thanks so much to all of you who replied.
All of these look good, but after exploring the web-based options I think I
finally concluded that they are all "time period" based, and dont' really
allow you to redefine times to periods. You have to just add Period as part
of the event name (unless I missed something). So, I figured if people got
those to work I should work harder (or probably, more accurately, was
obsessed with :) ) adapting Google Calendars to work. Well, I kept hacking
away and finally figured out that I could create a repeating event for each
period - for example, I have an event called Per 1:, which I defined from
9:00 - 9:52 AM which repeats every week day until the end of the year. When
I want to assign that period to a teacher on a specific day, I can click on
Per:1 for that date, type in, say, Per 1: Smith, and when I say save, tell
it to save the change for just that one instance. Google calendar allows you
to share your calendar as a web page or to imbed it into your own webpage.
While that option only displays by month or agenda, you, as the calendar
maker can display and then print (or pdf it) it by the week or other ways.
best wishes,
Jane Lofton
