[CALIBK12] CALIBK12 Digest, Vol 5, Issue 24

I work as a librarian in an elementary private school. My salary is
not quite competitive to our local public schools. But my work
environment is great, if you like technology as well as books, and
enjoy working in a collaborative environment. We have our subject
standards and do curriculum mapping. We are only 150 students, with
32 of the students in an off site accreditied NAEYC preschool. I
provide them a Book Bag program and resources on demand for their
project based curriculum. I have had a generous budget, which has not
increased for 5 or 6 years. I work hard. Our students love to read.
Our parents support the library with generous donations of time,
gently used books, new books, and cash donations. The partnership
with the families and the teachers has been one of my greatest
strengths. I do know that some of our area private high schools pay
$15 K more than I am paid at the elementary level. This makes their
salary competitive with the local public schools. You might be able
to go to the NAIS site to receive an overview of salaries. Becky

Hello all,
I have a job interview for an LMT position at a private school. This
is a private school, not a parochial school. The salary says
"negotiable" and I don't know what to ask for. Do private schools pay
more, less, same as public schools?
Thanks to all who can share some info about salaries.

Greetings,

I'd like to invite other libraries in the area to Upland Public
Library's Multi-Purpose Room on Thursday, August 30, 11 a.m. to 3
p.m., for a Spanish-Language book fair. The vendor Fondo Cultural
Latinoamerica will offer 20-40% discount to libraries. FCL's owner
Adele Tortora will bring both adult and children's titles on various
topics, and having recently returned from a buying trip, she promises
many titles not readily available in the States. Adele can accept
payment in cash, check, or purchase order; she can also take orders
for more copies if there is only a single copy of a title. I'll try
to set aside some boxes for those of you who buy in bulk, but if you
expect to buy a lot, please bring your own boxes. Also, we'll have
at least one laptop set up in the room so that you can check titles
against your library's web catalog.

Please let me know if and when you'll be coming, so I can get an idea
of how many boxes to set aside.

Directions/Parking:

The Upland Public Library is located at 450 N. Euclid Avenue, Upland,
CA 91786.
> From the 10 FWY, exit north at Euclid Avenue.
You will find the Library on the east side of Euclid Avenue, between
Arrow Highway and "D" Street.
The Library shares a city block with City Hall. The two white
buildings face each other across a courtyard.
Free parking is available on the adjoining City lot.
Enter the Multi-Purpose Room from the D Street entrance (next to the
Staff/Deliveries/Donations entrance) or through the Library.

Please call or email me to RSVP or if you need more information.
