Peter and Kate,
Congratulations! Will you be using the California K-12 High Speed
Network? If so, my Education Advocate Teammates
<http://www.kn.att.com/support/california.html> , especially Linda
Uhrenholt (SF Bay region) would be a great support for you in this
effort. Over the past year, each of us Advocates took turns presenting
a topic a month on the CAK12HSN Professional Development Cafe. We
essentially were "test drivers." CAK12HSN is looking for content, which
you plan to create.
As to content, CSLA members who have taken School Library Learning 2.0
<http://schoollibrarylearning2.blogspot.com/> over the summer have come
up with great ideas for content and have written about their ideas and
plans on their blogs and the California 2.0 Curriculum Connections Wiki
<http://calcurriculum.pbwiki.com/> . The more YouTube and TeacherTube
videos and tutorials we view, the more ideas all of us will have for
topics and creative/fun ways to present ideas.
Best wishes!
- Jackie

Subject: [CALIBK12] Professional Development Project
Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone had a great summer and glad to be back.
Kate MacMillan from Napa Valley USD and me are taking on a big
undertaking. Our goal is to provide professional development via video
streaming / internet / chat rooms / online courses - we are checking
into many different possibilities.
Our goal is to have short 5 - 15 minute presentations touching on as
many library topics as we can (such as - How to Weed - maybe broke down
into a series) - available Free 24 hours a day. They can be used as a
refresher or as trainings for new people and/or districts. Our goal is
to have it be used statewide - with presenters from all over the state.
We are completely in the beginning stages and our first actual meeting
is in a few weeks. We have the television studio, the tech department
behind us, and the possibilities to pull this off but we still need a
lot of help from you.
We are hoping to get your input on a few things:
1) Topics for presentations
2) Names of Fantastic Dynamic Presenters
3) Best format/programs/solutions to roll it out in
4) Donors - Something like this will not be cheap - we need
money/sponsors and ideas on getting funding
5) Other ideas/thoughts that can make this valuable for everyone
Our goal is to make this very professional - something that everyone can
used - the more input we receive the more meaning it will have
statewide.
Thank you in advanced for all your comments and we will keep you posted
on our progress - we know it is not going to happen overnight but we are
ready to get the ball rolling. I know there are a lot of
publishers/vendors/colleges on our listserv - please feel free to send
me your input as well.
Thank you
Peter
