Hello Fellow Librarians/LMT¹s/Friends of the library!:

A friend of mine, Dale Ferrario, has recently changed career paths with Sun
Microsystems. He, along with his brother, Todd Ferrario, decided to start up
a non-profit company, FreshBrain (FreshBrain.org <http://freshbrain.org/> )
focused on enhancing the education and development of our youth in the areas
of business and technology by providing hands-on real world experience.
(Attached is a flyer that will explain more about Dale's new work on
developing this non-profit company.)

I encourage any of you ³Calibers² to check out this new site and become a
volunteer or pass it on to your tech departments!

 Friends,

I will be taking on the task of gathering a volunteer group who can help
FreshBrain from an educator's perspective. I am looking for volunteers to
join in the Educational Advisory Board (EAB) for FreshBrain. After reading
this, please let me know if you or someone you know may be interested in
volunteering. I would like to get a group set up by the end of the December
2007, and start helping out in January of 2008 (which is when the site will
go live).

What is the Educator's Advisory Board?

In pursuit of FreshBrain's mission, educators advisory board (EAB) will
review and advise FreshBrain. The EAB is a resource for FreshBrain to
access educators knowledge and experience in motivating and working with
high school age students.

What are some examples of what FreshBrain may need EAB's advice and
experience in?
*
* Interaction with students.
*
* Platform (technology) that the students see and use.
*
* Types of activities and projects.
*
* Depth of training available.
*
* Integration with high schools and their curriculum.
*
* Availability in after school programs.
*
* Technology areas provided.

What are we looking for in an EAB volunteer? Someone who....
*
* has experience in the educational field
*
* can spend a few hours each month reviewing and commenting on materials and
ideas that FreshBrain would like to implement
*
* are available to communicate mainly online
*
* may have interest in technology
*
* may have experience with high school age students
*
* are excited about joining the FreshBrain community of volunteers

Julie Ferrario
