[CALIBK12] Handling donations

Hi Doug,
I would view this as a learning opportunity.
This is what I suggest talk with your principal about this. Make sure your
principal is aware of the libraries policies. Make it very clear to him/her
why you have them. Don¹t assume unless you have had this conversation with
them that they know or appreciate the import of these policies. This will
lay the ground work for discussing with them why you don¹t want the same
thing to happen with the book drive next year.
Next go to the business and give them your list and make it very explicit
that you want these books and only these books because of the school¹s
library policies. Make sure they understand that you really really
appreciate their efforts and you want to do it again but within the outlined
objects. Tell them that quality current books set a tone that says
³learning, schools and libraries are a top priority.² Used, and old books
set a negative tone and can in fact get the school in trouble if the
information is incorrect or not appropriate.
Hopefully they will understand and appreciate that you are making your
students, your library and your schools needs clear.
