The 30 Boxes calender, which is the calendar plugin that pbwiki uses, allows you to note the reason for the visit.

i don't have any idea if Google or any of the other online calendars offer this as an option...

Google calendar has its pros and cons. It's easy to add events on a range of date dates, but not that easy to change multiple dates. When you have lots of events in one day, they don't all show unless you make the cell length quite long. A nice feature is that you can have multiple calendars, and, as the editor, see all of them at once or just one of them. I am the school webmaster, so I have a calendar for the school, the one for the library, and also recently created one for before school/lunch/after school openings, so that parents and students can view that. When I am working on the calendar in Google, I can see any of these separately or together.

I have let the public library know about the page, so they can check to see when they will be innundated with requests for middle ages books.  I am still in the prodding phase of that one.  As with anything new there is a breaking in time. (the password is booklove and I invite you to add your ideas) Of all the things I learned on School Library Learning 2.0, the wikis have been the most useful in my daily world.  I am spreading the wiki way, thanks to Doug Achterman and the SLL 2.0 team.  If you haven't yet signed on for the Winter Fun I encourage you to go for it.

Hi Elena,

We can schedule the library on our GroupWise calendar, but we keep a notebook on the library counter and teachers have to come in and sign up, meanwhile talking with me too. My library assistant and I can then post the signups on the GroupWise calendar so anyone can check availability in GroupWise. We are the ones with the proxy to change it. I think it meets a lot of needs that way, yet encourages the teachers to collaborate with me and not just show up.

There is a calendar in pbwiki. I got the info from Megan Fuller and it works great, but everyone can change it if they can edit the wiki and you run into some of the other problems people have mentioned here on the list. Megan said, "The calendar is a plug-in feature on pbwiki, it’s found under productivity (I think).  On the toolbar you will see a green puzzle piece to get to the plug-in feature." I wouldn't have found this if she hadn't told me about it. I haven't explored the "puzzle pieces on the toolbar!

Hi, I have had several requests from teachers to have an online sign in for scheduling classes in the library. I am wondering if anyone has figured out the best way to do this. I considered Google calendar but it seems hard to share and allow editing. I looked at Microsoft Outlook but can’t figure out how to use periods instead of time. I tried pbwiki and that may work but I am new to the program. I made a table and it didn’t fit on the page. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
