>From the School of Library and Information Science at San Jose State
University, we applaud the efforts of Sacramento State, Lobn Beach
State, Fesno State and Azuza Pacific for offering credental programs
for the LMT.
However, all applicatnts for the credential should know that these
program are not recognized by the American Library Association as a
masters degree in library and information science. Such an accredited
degree offers more flexibility since it qualifies the applicant to
work in any type of library .
In the last week, The American Library Assciation has re-accredited
San Jse State University for the next seven years.
So the message is clear. If you are headed to a school library and
that only, any one of the credential programs are fine, but for more
flexibility, seek an ALA accredited program. The one at San Jose
State can now be takine totally online so you don't have to travel
from your home.
