(I posted this yesterday but it did not come back through to my email as
having been posted, so I am sending again. Please forgive if you received
this a second time!)
I just re-read the CSLA Journal article on "The Wonder of Reading" program
(Spring 2007, p 8) and would love to know more about this from any of you
who have been through this process - what you like, what you don't (or
doesn't "work" for you). Our enrollment is dropping and I may finally be
able to move the library into a larger room, so I want to be ready with new
ideas to pitch to my principal.
I am also curious about the photo on pg. 9. It seems that the upper shelves
have bands to secure the books on the shelf, and that the primary-level
picture books are shelved as high as the 4th shelf and on display on the 5th
(I'm numbering from the bottom up) on a tall, 5 shelf stack. This strikes me
as being inappropriate for picture book use by Ks and first graders who are
the predominate users (at least at my site), and those bands would
discourage browsing and impede re-shelving. Apparently I am in need of
enlightening . . . does the San Andreas fault lie directly beneath this
library? Is this library populated by Watusi-height primary grade students?
Just curious . . .
