I received two responses (could have sworn I had three) and here they are:
1) Even though this is recommended for middle school, it is a good choice and I think covers the important information.
The Printing Press (Great Inventions), Milton Meltzer, Benchmark, 2004
Here's the contents:
Includes bibliographical references (p. 115-118) and index.;Speaking, writing, and reading -- Scribes and scrolls -- Was China first? -- How Gutenberg did it -- Printing, printing everywhere -- The print shop: a cultural center -- From apprentice to master -- An aid to science -- From Luther to Plymouth Rock -- The printing press and democracy -- Many voices -- In love with the printed word -- The power of print -- The new place of print. Explains the mechanics of the first printing press, invented in Germany by Gutenberg in the fifteenth century, and describes the press's revolutionary impact on the world.
2) For one with minimal text and lots of interesting pictures, try the Eyewitness book titled Book. http://www.amazon.com/Eyewitness-Book-DK-Publishing/dp/0789458926/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-7838309-9848611?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1183883076&sr=8-1
Thanks to those who responded!
