Dear CA_librarians,
The Center for Digital Literacy at Syracuse University's School of
Information Studies is conducting a national online survey of US 8th graders
and the library media specialist / teacher librarians at their schools. The
study measures students' perceived and actual competence in information and
digital literacy, and some other motivational variables that may impact
students' information seeking.
This study is funded by a grant from the Institute for Museum and Library
Services (IMLS).=20
We are beginning our recruitment process of library media specialists /
teacher librarians at US public schools, whose expertise we will require to
implement this project with 8th-graders at the school level. The project
involves collaborating with our research team in implementing an online
survey with up to 30 of your school's 8th-graders, local in your school
environment. This will occur during the Spring semester of 2008, the next
school year. We will provide full support for the conduct of the study,
including materials, forms, training, the online survey, and follow-through.
Several benefits exist for participating library/media specialists:
1. Receive aggregate data analytic reports on 8th-graders' digital literacy,
information literacy, and much more.
2. Receive reprints of all articles and publications generated from the
grant.
3. If interested, you can download study data (all anonymous) from the
project website after the study is complete, for further analysis of your
individual school.
4. Receive a gift of $200 in thanks for your efforts in collaborating with
us.
If you think you may be interested in participating, please visit the
following link and fill out our brief, 5-minute online questionnaire.=20

This is the start of the screening process for participants. By taking the
questionnaire you are simply indicating your possible interest, and
providing us with some information about yourself. We will follow up with
more details via email and/or regular mail in the next three weeks.

We hope to hear from many of you on this list! Thank you so much in advance
for your interest. Please forward this on to other colleagues who may be
interested.
Sincerely,
