We use Golden Rule Bindery in Escondido, CA (North San Diego County). They generally shave or sand the edges, so I think they might work for your purposes. Their website is at http://www.goldenrulebindery.com/, and it lists book restoration under "Extra Services."

We've discussed places to send books to be rebound, but does anyone know of
a place (preferably between Orange County and San Diego) that can repair
burned books? My daughter's storage cubicle was set on fire (this was
several years ago) and many of her university textbooks were burned. Most
were beyond repairing, but some she managed to salvage are just
burned/scorched around the outer edge of the pages. The binding/spine edge
and most of the page is fine. There are a few that cannot be replaced (out
of print/Swedish editions, specialized subjects) so they would be worth
repairing to her if it's not too costly. I think the page edges would have
to be sanded down in some way.

Thanks,
