Below are listed the rest of the authors who will be presenting at the
CSLA conference in Ontario. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to
meet and enjoy getting to know each of these contributors to quality
juvenile literature.
Betty Birney was seven when she wrote her first book and she has
continued writing since. She has worked in many mediums as an
advertising copywriter, studio publicist, theatrical trailer producer,
Emmy award-winning children's television writer and the author of 34
children's books. She has won a Writers Guild of America award, three
Humanitas Prizes and the Christopher Award for FRIENDSHIP ACCORDING TO
HUMPHREY. Her children's books have been nominated for numerous state
awards. THE SEVEN WONDERS OF SASSAFRAS SPRINGS, inspired by her family's
oft-told tales, received starred reviews in Kirkus and Publisher's
Weekly and is a 2007-2008 CYRM nominee in the Intermediate category.
Reflecting on her diverse writing, Betty says "a story is a story and I
am a story-teller". Website: www.bettybirney.com

Growing up in Brooklyn, Susan Goldman Rubin dreamed of becoming an
artist. She never dreamed of becoming a writer, especially of
non-fiction books. Her love of art is reflected in her various
biographies of artists which tell the stories behind great paintings and
drawings. ANDY WARHOL: POP ART PAINTER was recently nominated for an
award in Children's Picture Books by the Southern California Independent
Booksellers Association and was named a 2007 ALA Notable. Susan also
wants to educate the public about the Holocaust. During a visit to the
Simon Weisenthal Center/Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, she learned
about an unsung hero of the Holocaust and has told her story in
FIREFLIES IN THE DARK: THE STORY OF FRIEDL DICKER BRANDEIS AND THE
CHILDREN OF TEREZIN. Susan uses primary sources and her travels to bring
life and authenticity to her writing. Website: www.susangoldmanrubin.com

The author of over 180 books, Mike Thaler started his professional
career drawing cartoons for adults. When a children's book editor saw
one of his cartoon stories, Mike was encouraged to try writing for
children. Since 1961, he has produced many well known and loved
characters in children's literature from "The Letterman" for the PBS
Electric Company series to Mrs. Green and the rest of the Lagoon faculty
in this expanding Black Lagoon series. He has recently created the
"Heaven and Mirth" series of humorous retellings of Bible stories. Mike
states that his claim to fame is that he is called America's Riddle King
and his motto is "the most powerful nation in the world is
imagi-nation". Website: www.mikethaler.com <http://www.mikethaler.com/>
