[CALIBK12] Shameless self-promotion

Calibbers,
Mark's promotion may be shameless, but if you are interested in consulting,
he is a terrific resource on how to get started, what the market looks like,
and most especially, how to market yourself. We have a lot of CSLA members
who are starting to think retirement looks pretty good, but what next? This
is not a group of people who will be content to sit in a rocking chair
reading for the rest of their lives (no matter how good that sounds right
now) .
Consulting sounds like a casual, part-time, fun job, but it is really a
second career. If you want to go that route, you need to know what you're
getting into if you want to be successful.
So, thanks for the reminder, Mark, and I hope a lot of folks will take
advantage of this great opportunity to learn more about consulting and other
retirement options.
The CSLA Retired SIG (Special Interest Group) will also be meeting at the
conference, and if you want to learn what retired library folks are doing, I
encourage you go drop in on this session.

I KNOW this is shameless, but here goes <G>
Are you about to retire, or just recently retired (or maybe hoping to be
retired in the not-too-distant-future)?
If so, congratulations! If you are attending the CSLA Conference in Ontario
Nov. 15-18, you might be interested in the presentation I am giving on
consulting after retirement on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 1 pm, Room 100. I'll
be covering such things as deciding how much to do, assessing your strong
points, publicity and marketing yourself, contracts, and pricing your
services. Consulting can range all the way from an occasional extra day or
two helping out in your former district to a full time new career. If you
think you might be interested in consulting, you owe it to yourself to do
some investigating before jumping in. This one hour session (with handouts!
and time for questions!!) is a good place to begin.
Hope to see you at the conference!
