The book was automatically covered by low level copyright protection as
soon as it was recorded on paper.
However, I think you son and daughter will want to more formally
register it. Toward that end they should explore the Library of
Congress Copyright Office site: http://www.copyright.gov/

Subject: [CALIBK12] book publishing
Hi All Knowing and Helpful Colleagues,
This is kind of a personal request but it is related to our profession.
My son and daughter have written a book that will be self published and
distributed via their website. They asked me about how to get a
copyright
and an ISBN. They did find some information online about copyright but I
believe the ISBN is assigned by the publisher and they are self
publishing. Also, what about getting an LC number? I'm totally on the
consumer end of this process, not the production end.
This book is intended to be the first of a series and they would like
later titles to be published and distributed more widely and
commercially.
Any information, links to websites or helpful hints on publishing would
be
greatly appreciated.
