[CALIBK12] Reader's Advisary: Global Issues

I have a 6th grade teacher who would like some suggestions for fiction
class reads on what I'll call "global coflicts."  He read "The Kite
Runner" and would like something similar.  His goal is to expose
students to ethnic/religious/cultural issues/conflicts.  I have two
books which I would recommend, "Samir and Yonatan" (Palestine and
Israel) and "The Storyteller's Beads" (Ethiopian Jews)  I know I could
get lots of titles using the keyword "war" or "war stories" but I'm
trying to expand the list beyond WWII.   Thanks so much for your help.
