Hi,

Judy Freeman has some Dewey lessons that actually manage to be fun which she
has included in her resource handbooks "What's NEW in Children's Literature
and Strategies for using it in your program" (Grades K-6). I have the 2007
version, but older copies probably have some of the same lessons.

I am not big on worksheets but the fill in the blank stories that give a
Dewey number and the kids have to go to the shelves and find the subject of
that number to fill in the blank can be fun (kids can work together and the
whole class can review answers), Judy has some of those in her book. I have
also heard her describe a collection of realia that she has sorted into 10
jars for the main Dewey categories and once the students are more familiar
with the system she empties the jars and the students can sort the items
back into the correct jars.

Good luck! I think the key is just to have some fun with it and get across
the idea that if they know these numbers they can find things in almost any
school or public library.

Sorry to not have any actual pages for you.

Jill
