As it happens, I'm presenting on this topic at the
CSLA conference tomorrow in a concurrent sessions
called "Urban Fiction and Teens".

My Powerpoint presentation, handouts, and booklists
are online at teenlibrarian.com/streetlit

The second half of the Powerpoint has teen titles that
will appeal to readers of adult urban fiction. There
are also good lists on the Library Success Wiki, which
is linked from the teenlibrarian.com/streetlit page. I
also have a Latino interest list with fiction and
nonfiction titles.

Hope this helps,

The students at my library are crazy about realistic
fiction and memoirs about "gang life" Examples are
My Bloody
Life by Sanchez and Always Running by Luis Rodriguez.
 Also,
in fiction books like, some of the things by Myers
and
Mowry. Can anyone recommend other titles? Also,
Does anyone
know of any "Ghetto" lit that isn't too raw to put in
a high
 school library?

Thanks in advance,
