Thank you for pointing this out to us WITH the link to the source, David. This is so much more useful to me than someone simply stating their opinion.
I'm rather ashamed to admit that I have not yet read this trilogy (though I've read a few of Pullman's others-very dark indeed), and it is not [yet?] in my library at my new post. As I am now teaching at a Catholic high school, I think-unlike Richie's infamous principal-I must read the book before I attempt to have any intelligent discussion regarding what agenda it may or may not be promoting. (BTW, mad props to Richie! You go, dude!)
Again, David, I appreciate your taking the time to make us aware of just what perceptions are "out there" so we may be ready to deal with them...

Subject: [CALIBK12] Golden Compass Controversy
Just thought the Calib community might want to be up to speed on the controversies regarding the Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman before it arrives in theaters in December.

Although I can not find any supporting evidence on his site to support the claims on the rumor mill, http://www.philip-pullman.com/index.asp , it might be worthy to note the perception in the larger community exists.
