[CALIBK12] Query: Printing Spine Labels in Destiny

Setting up Destiny to print spine labels can be difficult, but once it's done it's pretty straightforward (Destiny remembers my settings and offsets, so I only had to figure it out once). Here are my steps:

  1. Scan your barcodes into a word or wordpad file and save it. (You can scan them straight into Destiny if you are only doing a few, but with big batches you don't want to have to rescan them if the first try doesn't work!).

  2. Go to Back Office and reports, then Copy Spine/Pocket labels. "Based on List" is the default, but if you have a word document, then click on the dropdown menu and choose Barcode List.

  3. Browse for your word file and select it.

  4. Choose your label stock. I use Demco 5 X 11, 14216170 (spine).

  5. Enter your printer offsets. This takes some experimentation on blank paper -- print and then hold it up with the label sheet behind it to see if the call numbers are centered on the stickers. Mine are Horizontal 13 and Vertical 25, but I don't know if that will work for everyone. Once you know your settings, Destiny remembers them, but I have them written down just in case.

    6. Choose the label to start on. If you are printing a full sheet, the default (1) is fine. If you have a half used sheet of labels, figure out which number is the first unused one.

    7. Click Run report. Refresh the job manager and open the Adobe file, then print it.

  8. If you are still having trouble you may need to go to "Adobe Print Specs" inside Adobe Acrobat (where the file opens), set the page scaling at "None" and turn off Auto Rotate.

Note that the labels print alphabetically.

  Hope that helps!
