[CALIBK12] Accelerated Reader question- HOW?

Deb,

You stated: "Any labeling of library books, besides genre, violates
someone's rights and freedoms."

How exactly? Does putting a label on something prohibit them from selecting
it?

While putting on a "leveling label" may embarrass some students, the label
itself doesn't restrict anyone from reading the material unless someone else
(i.e. a teacher or librarian) restricts students to a specific level or
limited selection, and that could happen with or without a label. But that's
a different issue. Please, I would like to read your reasoning.

Hello Mary and CAlib;

I'm trying to think how I would feel if I was an author of one
of the non-starred books. I would pop into the library and ask why kids were
directed away from the books I had worked so hard to write.

Any labeling of library books, besides genre, violates someone's
rights and freedoms.

Just a thought,

We put stars on the spines of all the books that have quizzes, but put the
level information inside the back cover. Kids need to be able to locate
books with quizzes easily, but the levels are nobody else's business.
