Debbie of noodletools wrote and suggested that I take another look at
noodlebib. I did. It has improved a great deal since the last time I
tried it. Very impressive and extremely thorough. Nevertheless, I still
plan to keep KnightCite linked to my site and teach my middle school
students how to use it.
If I were employed at the high school or college level again, I would
definitely recommend noodlebib to students. It is more interactive and
less wieldy than KnightCite, requiring careful reading and more decision
making (hence, requiring more time and possibly resulting in a greater
number of errors if students try to rush through the process).
Noodlebib is much better at answering many of the questions that arise
when students are creating citations, and therefore lends itself to
those who are more sophisticated and independent. KnightCite is faster
and more direct, so I think it suits my middle schoolers better.
I just might link noodlebib to my website, though, to give the students
another option. At the very least, I will show it and other "machines"
to classes when teaching bibliographic citations so that they are aware
of all the cool sites in cyberspace that can assist them with the
tedious process of writing accurate citations.
I do not recall which Calibber originally asked for a recommendation
for a good bib maker site. I hope all the suggestions have helped you,
including my plug for KnightCite at
http://www.calvin.edu/library/knightcite/. There certainly are a lot
more choices now. And that's good for students and good for us. To each
her own. =)
