Incomplete and/or incorrectly formatted applications will not be considered.
AT&T COMPETITIVE GRANT PROGRAM
The AT&T Foundation is pleased to announce a competitive grant program for initiatives that integrate wireless technology into education delivery. This $1.5 million program is focused on helping education-related 501(c)(3) public charities and government instrumentalities integrate wireless technology into their ongoing educational programs and outreach. This integration will enhance the delivery of education in settings that engage youth and adults in life-long learning. Grants range from $2,500 to $25,000 and are for one year.
PROGRAM QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifying organizations include:
* School district/system foundations (but not individual schools or school
districts without a foundation)
* Private and charter school foundations
* Colleges and universities (public and private)
* Libraries
* Museums
* Nonprofits that work on-site with public and private education institutions
* Nonprofits that work with public and private education institutions on a project
basis (e.g. symphonies, parks, botanical gardens, historical sites, etc.)
Qualifying technologies include:
§ Cellular Networks, Applications, and Devices
§ Handhelds/Personal Digital Assistant (PDA)
§ Wi-Fi and other Wireless Networks
Qualifying wireless projects include (but are not limited to):
* Wireless Internet Access - high-speed access to the Internet and e-mail.
* Wireless Database Access
* Wireless Data Networking - network connectivity to enable easy sharing
of database applications and information systems
* Text and Multimedia Messaging
* Mobile Audio and Video (for applications such as cell phone museum tours
or enhanced learning)
* Podcasts and Audio Casts
* WiFi on a campus
1. The focus of the PROJECT submitted must be to integrate wireless communications technology into educational delivery for youth and/or adults.
2. Projects must serve 51 percent or more underserved populations through any combination of the following (e.g. 31% low-income and 20% urban cluster):
- Underserved racial and ethnic groups (African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, and Asian-American)
- Low-income (as defined by the U.S. Federal Government Departments of Health & Human Service or Housing & Urban Development or U.S. Census Bureau)
- Seniors (people 50 years old and above)
- Rural (places of less than 2,500 persons, as defined by U.S. Census Bureau)
- Urban cluster (places of at least 2,500 people but fewer than 50,000, as defined by U.S. Census Bureau)
- People with disabilities (physical, mental, or learning)
3. Project funding recommendations to the Foundation are made on a state-by-state basis. Projects should be developed for the benefit of the submitting state. Example: An Arkansas review committee will make all recommendations on Arkansas submissions, so they should include only Arkansas-based organizations.
4. Additionally, programs must include metrics for achieving and measuring the success
of the project.
Grants will NOT be awarded to:
* Individual K-12 schools, both public and private (see Qualifying Organizations)
* Individuals
* 211 Information and Referral Service Agencies
* Organizations without 501(c)(3) public charity or government instrumentality status
* Private foundations
* Programs that AT&T Foundation is currently funding
* Capital campaigns or endowments
* Facility construction or renovation
* Religious organizations for sectarian purposes
* Events or sponsorships
* Projects that include only a planning/development phase
