[CALIBK12] Shared Author Visit in Sacramento Area?

Hello, Fellow Sac-Area Librarians.
Our K-8 school is in the planning stage for an Author-Illustrator Day in March, 2008.? The event is sponsored by our parent club's Arts in the School Committee, so our focus is on the creative aspect of books.? We have chosen Deborah Nourse Lattimore, who is perfect for our focus since she is both an author and an accomplished artist-illustrator from Southern California.? I have seen Ms Lattimore's presentations at past CSLA conferences and at a school where I previously worked.? She is great!??
Ms Lattimore's books have?multicultural themes;?she does incredible research prior to writing and illustrating her books, thereby providing?an excellent role model for students; many of her titles have ancient civilization settings,?like Mayan and Ancient Egyptian times, so they fit nicely with the curriculum and standards; she is comfortable and?experienced with all grade levels and ages; she has teaching experience, so she is quite good with student groups; and her books are brilliant and?appropriate for all ages.? (By the way, our kids love the history of underwear book!)
And what a deal I have for you . . . The purpose of this posting is to offer to share the expenses of Ms Lattimore's visit to the Sacramento area with any school that is interested in also scheduling her for an author visit in March.? This will reduce the cost of her visit since we can share the?travel, hotel, etc. expenses.? At this time, we have several possible days in March, so we can discuss what date will work best for your school.? If you are interested, please reply off-list at karencole at smeds.net .
