(JHeather, Marie, et al:(B

(J1) When you change the subject it's best to change the subject line to avoid (B
(Jconfusion.(B

(J2) Take a look at the changed text. It's usually obvious that it is an (B
(Japostrophe or quotation marks or dashes that are being replaced with gibberish. (B
(JThe reason is that the person sending the garbled message has "smart quotes" (B
(Jenabled in their email preferences. Sometimes this gets read just fine by (B
(Jthose with similar systems, but when messages pass over from PC to MAC, or from (B
(JYahoo to AOL, they often get "translated" badly. I'm using quotes here to see (B
(Jif you get this garbled. What you sent out and asked ME about wasn't sent (B
(Jby me. The above was. Are the marks intact?(B

(J3) At some point in the interchange of email it becomes impossible to know (B
(Jwho is sending and responding. Taking a few seconds to actually think about (B
(Jhow your message will appear will be helpful to your reader -- as will noticing (B
(Jwhether you are "replying" or "replying to all." It also helps to use your (B
(Jcomputer's spell check capabilities. I just did and fixed three errors (yes, (B
(Jeven ME!).(B
