[CALIBK12] Patron History, temp control

ohhh, I'd rather have access to temperature control than grades and discipline. In aeries, I have access to patrons home info and class schedules, but not discipline and grades, unless they are my TA's. We also have access to patron history. I may not use it every single day, but when I need it, I have it.
I do have control over the temperature in the library. The classrooms do not, so I do feel "special". 

We did get our district to unblock del.icio.us! We can also submit websites we would like to have considered to be unblocked. That makes me a happy camper. Now if I could just get some money to buy new books!

Turning off Patron History does not prevent the system from storing the data.  It just makes it a little more difficult to access.  A school would still have to extract the data in the face of a subpoena.

At my school, my assistant and I both have access to Aeries.  We need it to download class lists for Accelerated Reader, to import new patron, and find students' classes to deliver notices.  We can also see grades, discipline records, etc.  I believe it is very much a trust issue.

Ironically, my district doesn't trust me to set the temperature in the library.  Go figure!

I think, in this case, it may not be a trust issue. It sounds like
fall-out from the Patriot Act. Some libraries and library systems have
made the decision not to release information about what people are
reading. What some have done, among other things, is turn off patron
history.

While the discussion of whether that is good or bad can likely wait for
another day, this is an issue that all library folks should address.
