Calibbers,

When I agreed to put together the workshops for this upcoming November CSLA conference, I had no idea what terrific workshops they would be. Talking about all of the workshops would take pages, so I'll just focus on three for now.

I'm always interested in hearing about new books, because I simply don't have time to read as much as I'd like, either books or reviews. Michael Cart
( http://www.ala.org/ala/yalsa/professsionaldev/Cartspot.htm )

will be presenting a workshop about the Best of the Best in YA literature, and check the link-- he knows YA lit. Kathleen Baxter, who writes a column for School Library Journal (http://www.kathleenbaxter.com/about/about.html ) will be sharing her expertise and booktalking nonfiction titles. Both Cart and Baxter are well known authors and speakers and have been mentioned on Calib earlier this year.

But there's more-- Gene Yang (http://www.geneyang.com/about.htm) will be doing a presentation on graphic novels in the school library. His graphic novel, American Born Chinese, was a finalist for the National Book Award and won ALA's Prinz award, the first graphic novel so honored. Here is an award-winning author and teacher who will share ideas on how to select quality graphic novels and use them to encourage reluctant readers.

But---these are only a few of the workshops being offered. Other topics include blogging, research curriculum, Library 2.0, collaboration, student achievement related to school libraries, Internet safety, and library websites. For a complete list of workshops, go to
