[CALIBK12] LMT hours and prep

I'm with the Newport-Mesa Unified School District. Three years ago following a long hard fought battle we secure additional compensation for our credentialed LMT. We are paid a stipend through Role and Recompense as outlined in our collective bargaining agreement for extended time beyond the regular school day and management level program responsibilities.

The major issue that aided us in securing this extra stipend was to emphasis that LMT are responsible for budget and program development the same as any other Department Coordinator. In my district Department Coordinators do not receive an extra prep period, but do get a stipend based on the number of sections they have to administer. The minimum number for stipend is eight sections; therefore, a LMT working six periods a day would never qualify yet we shouldered the same duties. We used the equal pay for equal work scenario.

Regarding prep periods, we (there are LMT at the secondary level only - total of six) do not have a designated prep period. It is somewhat compensated by the R& R stipend. It has become more of a site by site matter. If I need to take special time (prep or personal) it is worked out with my Administration. Fortunately, I've never had any really difficulties that couldn't be resolved and I take the time I want.

I am anxious to see the results of your comparison and hope you will share them.

Regards,
Hilary

Subject: [CALIBK12] LMT hours and prep

A recent discovery that credentialed LMTs in my district (Roseville Joint Union HSD) are held to different contract standards than classroom teachers has our union reps curious as to how other districts (especially in the Central Valley area: Elk Grove, Nevada Union, Davis, Sacramento, Placer, San Juan, etc) handle the LMT contract.

The reps have asked me to seek out the following information regarding contract hours and prep periods. If you are a credentialed LMTs and don't mind taking the time, please respond OFF LIST to the questions below. Feel free to be as detailed as you like - the more comparisons I can draw, the better. Many thanks in advance.

- Are your contract hours the same as classroom teachers or extended (mandatory hours, not the hours we volunteer beyond the work day)

- Do you have a paid prep like a classroom teacher? If so, is it "fixed" (a certain period of the day) or "floating" (taken when it fits the schedule).

- If you do not have a paid prep, are you compensated in any way for working a full schedule without preparation?
