Dear Fellow Librarians,
My daughter Lizzie is planning a book drive as her 8th grade project, a
culmination of her Waldorf elementary education. She is working with Dr.
Scott Kellermann, a Nevada City physician who has worked in Uganda for
the past five years ministering to the Batwa Pygmies who were displaced
from their hunter gatherer lifestyle and land when their ancestral home
became a mountain gorilla preserve. (More info at www.pygmies.net)
Their needs are many - including land, agricultural skills, education,
and healthcare - and Dr. Kellermann has asked Lizzie to collect new or
gently used children's books in English, especially picture books, to
distribute to primary schools in the area. She would like to ship them
in October, and would greatly appreciate help finding donations - so of
course I thought of you all!
If anyone has any experience with a project like this, or knows of a
vendor who may have a surplus, or any other source or words of advice,
she and I would be so grateful to you.
Thank you,
Jane Edwards
