And what about the fact that CTA is putting a lot of our money, plus time and publicity into a NO vote on NCLB reauthorization - at the same time that we are working to add the SKILLS act?

I too read the latest issue of Ca. Ed. and had the same thought. Letters to the editor might wake someone up. Too bad the same 'ol, same 'ol is being perpetuated here. Or is it? Do we have as yet, an effective promotion campaign? CSLA is making good strides on the state level - thank you! But, how many of us, in our schools, working with our unions, can say we have a "promotion machine" in operation.

It's daunting to say the least to set up and commit to such a thing especially taking into consideration all that we do during our work day. (Don;t forget our home life too.) I am guilty of this - postponing establishing a promotion campaign in our district. We are so in need of it.

Therefore, I committ to developing with my colleagues, a campaign that will raise the awareness of our importance on our school campuses to our board members, our city council, our district and school-site administration and our union members. I will start this, with my colleagues, this school year.

I just received the Sept. issue of California Educator.
The cover story is "The Information Age: Teaching and
Learning on the Cutting Edge." What a great way to start
the school year, I thought. Well, the school library/media
center was edged out and cut off. No mention of
information literacy, no school libraries or library media
teachers covered (the closest was CSU Fresno's
Instructional Technology and Resource Center in their
School of Ed). Plagiarism was noted -- and TurnItIn was
praised; hmm, let's teach by punishment rather than
construct plagiarism-proof assignments. Prove me wrong,
folks, but am I -- or we -- or they -- missing something?
