What Sandy said. NCLB, for good or evil, will be reauthorized *in some
form*. I think we (meaning CTA) would have spent our time more wisely
getting the needed modifications as opposed to working to defeat it.
Yes, much of it is just plain silly. However, it is a silliness that
could be changed to be less silly. I think getting them to dump the
entire mess is much harder than getting them to make some changes.

For those who were hoping that the change of political leadership in
Congress would be helpful to the cause, it doesn't seem to be turning
out that way. And, it appears, not just on this issue.

Well -- we tried to get them on board, but it didn't work. They feel
that they want to emphasize their issues. This is true with NEA on the
national level also.  However, grass roots advocacy works, and the
reality is that NCLB WILL be reauthorized.....which is why we have to
push to get our school library language into it. I hope you will contact
your U.S. Rep. and our 2 senators, and ask them to sign on as
co-sponsors.
