I have to agree with Sharon. All of our sites are encouraged to
check-out to parents, welcome parents to the library to browse or
observe, etc. We have experienced very few problems and a whole lot of
good will.

Subject: Re: [CALIBK12] Extending Lending Privileges to Parents
Dear Friends...
I have always stated at Back to School Nights, Open Houses, etc. when
many parents were present...that both of the MS libraries are open to
the community, incl parents, of course. At one school in an impoverished
area of town, I encourage parents to borrow materials in Eng and/or
Spanish. We want parents reading to their children and many have no
materials in their home. Of course, students attending the school may
borrow for their families, including parents and siblings.
I have never checked any legal ramifications. In 25 years +, I have
had no problems and if books are lost, stolen or "crayoned" on...I
figure it is the "cost of doing business"...and our business is
spreading literacy. (My opinions only.)
