[CALIBK12] Thank You and One Laptop

The One Laptop program is based on donations from individual, businesses
and foundations. No one's "hard earned dollars" are being given away,
other than what is chosen to be donated. And when I last checked,
individuals still have the right to choose where they wish to donate
their discretionary income.
If you feel that more resources should be devoted to areas within the
United States, than volunteer your time and money to be involved with
those businesses and foundations that support specific programs for
schools in the cities, counties, or states within the United States.
As most businesses and foundations with the resources to provide
community service support to schools are large enough to be global in
nature, it would make sense that their interest in donating to worthy
educational causes would reflect this global view.

I agree with Mary! These students in Africa, Asia, Europe..whereever
are just subscribers waiting to be tapped. Let's hear it for the
entrepreneurial genius that thought is up.

Hi all,
When all my USA kids have one laptop per child, then I will not ask why
we are so interested in providing so many countries with so many
resources and money. Areas of our country are not as affluent as other
areas of the country. Look at our education woes. I have already asked
this of this organization. Long Live the USA and don't give all my hard
earned dollars away when we need those dollars in the USA.

Last week was spring break and we were traveling. Consequently, I did
not check my email for 3 or 4 days. This morning, I opened it and went
through my Calib Postings. It was a good way to get back to work to see
the information and ideas shared. I know I should be more specific but
I don't want to leave anyone out. I appreciate all your postings.
This brief story about the One Laptop per Child Foundation has some
interesting ideas about the uses of computer in classes such as students
working together.
