I am working to increase library clerk staff to full time status. I know this seems crazy in this time of reduced budgets but there are some factors that have risen this year that come along only so often.
Are there any studies that show the hidden costs of losing experienced employees? With only one teacher librarian for 16 sites the library clerks make the libraries happen for students. While many of are libraries have 8 hours of library clerk staffing--this 8 hours is split between two clerks. All are 5.5 hours or less and we continue to lose them to full time employment outside our district. I have the numbers together to compare the increased costs that we can "see" but there are hidden costs for replacing a library clerk with 7 years of experience with someone who has no library experience. Is there a list out there?
Any help would is appreciated.
Thank you, Amber

"Libraries allow children to ask questions about the world and
find the answers. And the wonderful thing is that once a child
learns to use a library, the doors to learning are always open."
-- Laura Bush, First Lady

of people who think decorating consists mostly of building
enough bookshelves."
