[CALIBK12] Richard Moore in the OC Register-Correction

Thanks for posting the link Joy. However, there is a correction that should
be noted:
"Meanwhile, the Garden Grove Unified School District not only has full-time
credentialed librarians in all of its schools, the elementary schools have
an additional part time media tech position for each library."
This is incorrect. GGUSD has librarians at the intermediates (jr. high) and
high schools, not at any of its many elementary schools. At the elementary
sites we are all Library Media Technicians (classified employees) although
several of us do have a Library Tech certificate/degree from Santa Ana
College. And we at the elementary sites are all part-time, either 3 or 3.5
hours per day. I think all of our elementary sites also have a computer lab
tech (also 3 or 3.5 hrs.), so we don't have that responsibility. One or two
of our larger schools (1,000+ students) have (or have had) two library techs
whose shifts overlap, but neither is a full-time shift.
Richard did contact Ms. Cabrera, as did I, about the mistake. It's possible
she mixed up GGUSD with Long Beach. Richard assured me she received the
information correctly initially.

Although I can't find Yvette Cabrera's column on the Register online, y'all
should know that Richard Moore was featured in her column today, April 1,
2008. It begins, "It can be depressing hearing Richard K. Moore talk."
Then she goes on to say, "Don't get me wrong. Moore himself is a
fascinating, walking Wikipedia of sorts who fires off literacy statistics,
state reading rankings and historical dates so fast my pen can barely keep
up. The depressing part is hearing Moore describe the state of California's
school library system." Yep, she was obviously talking to our Richard and
he didn't mince any words. The column is entitled "Make School Libraries a
Priority," and where it is continued, it reads "Shortchanged Schools."
If you live in Orange County, look for the article. I cut it out but now
I'm not sure which section it was in--Local maybe? My husband spotted this
morning and pointed it out to me.
