Hi all,

What a great time for me to let you know that we will feature a session
at the CSLA conference in November where two of our teacher librarian
members will share their experiences with the online databases they
utilize at their school sites. It is, as was mentioned, becoming an
essential part of our library collection as we continue to face budget
woes and the need for 24/7 access. See you in November.

Tom,

Thanks for posting. As we deal with budget woes, we need to continue to
support out students' educational needs, and databases are an essential
part of that picture now.

	* AND, have you seen the hot, cheap, new Marshall
Cavendish
databases? They range from $231 to $263 and cover topics like
Early Life
in Ancient Civilizations. The price is for school and home
access, for
THREE YEARS. Cannot beat this price!
	=====

Thank you for the extra information, Margaret. It's very
helpful! By the way, folks, if you ever want to learn everything there
is to know about reference and publishers, grab Margaret Baker and walk
the floor with her at CSLA. I did this last time. Oh my.

As it happens, I have purchased three of the Marshall Cavendish
databases (Exploring Life Science, Exploring Earth & Space Science,
Exploring the Middle Ages) and they are wonderful! I have already been
training students how to use them and they really like them. I just
heard from publisher's rep extraordinaire, Kathy O'Kane, that the U.S.
History one will be available beginning in July. I ordered that this
week.

Here's a secret: Yes, you can get that for three years. However,
you can also get it for five years for not much more money. That
includes all updates and home access as well. I went with five years on
all four databases because I have the money now and who knows what the
future holds.
