I've already started reading the (intermediate and middle) CYRM selections
for 2008-09 http://californiayoungreadermedal.org/index.htm and have
finished Hattie Big Sky and Clementine - both were delightful. Rules is
next. Thanks to the committee for the great selections! Looking forward to
the promotional materials.
Because of the increased number of participants this year (we had about 70)
and expectations for possibly more next year, I'm going to encourage the
kids to read them over the summer if possible via the local public library.
Our branch children's librarian is great - she got extra copies at our
branch for our students this past year.
In the past, I've awarded the certificates at the end of the year during an
awards assembly. However, we're no longer having awards at a formal
assembly, just announcements on the blacktop on the minimum days just before
the kids are released. I'd love to know how others celebrate the
participation of their students and teachers. Do you have a party or?
