[CALIBK12] Clearly not enough to do

Tom & Sudesh et. al.: I believe that sometimes-with the exception of the teachers who collaborate w/ us and bring their classes into the library-people simply do not know what we do. And even those teachers who visit us regularly probably have no idea of our collection development activities or all the programs we are juggling in order to make our libraries the "center" of our campuses.
I know this is a drop in the proverbial bucket, but I keep an Excel spread sheet for each month during the school year, where I list which class came in during which period on what date, and a brief description of what they did (i.e., researched Latin poets and poetry; or, researched "green" companies, then checked and edited their stock portfolios online). At the end of each month, I total up the classes for month, and send the spreadsheet to my school principal, president, and asst. principal of academic affairs. They in turn share the information with the board.
I don't know how much this contributes to the idea that I'm busy (and valuable!), but I have not yet-in my first year-been asked to do anything that I consider to be outside my duties. Carry on, TLs...

Good for you, Sudesh!
In my short career as a teacher librarian, this seems to be something that comes up a great deal. Clearly, we do not have enough to do, so other duties should be assigned.
Why do you think that is? Are we not being visible enough? Are we not advocating strongly enough for our programs? Or is it something else altogether?

Thank you to everybody for answering my STAR test question. I got lot of responses and I shared your responses with my administration. They totally changed their mind and told me that it is not my responsibility at all. Your responses were very powerful. Thank you again.
