[CALIBK12] Query: Computer Log In @ library

Hi,
   
  Does any school (especially middle school or high school) require students to log onto computers before using them?  What software program do you use?  How are the user names and passwords generated?  What are the pros and cons?  
   
  I'm looking for a way to be able to track which students are on a computer in the library at anytime.  Right now the computers are always on and most students are good about coming and checking them out (which is done by checking them out as a textbook).  But some students have figured out that they can still get on the computer without checking it out; therefor there is no reliable tracking of who is on a computer.
