If you've been looking for a reason to learn about Second Life, here is your
chance. All this week, there will be a variety of activities and speakers
in Second Life to celebrate National Library Week. If you've never been in
Second Life, give yourself at least an hour to get all logged in before
attending the events this week. (And, I can always use more friends in
Second Life - SL - so, look me up as "Rob Zeevi"). Should be a great
discussion tonight (Monday) with Doug Johnson about copyright - on at 6pm.

Here is the schedule as posted on Joyce Valenza's blog:
http://www.schoollibraryjournal.com/blog/1340000334/post/1860024786.html

It looks like a lot of fun for those of us who are already *in world* and a
good opportunity for those of us new to SL to bump around and explore ALA
Island. (To find ALA Island in SL, do a search for *American Library
Association*.)

Note: Second Life Time (SLT) is the same as Pacific Time because the Second
Life company resides in San Francisco.

6pm SLT - Beating the No U-Turn Syndrome: A new approach to teaching and
enforcing copyright compliance
Location: Main Stage
Presenter: Doug Johnson
Description: For too long librarians have been seen as "copyright cops,"
impeding the use of copyrighted materials by students and staff. This
presentation suggests we redefine our roles, helping those we serve take
maximum advantage of fair use provisions, finding authorities with a
"user-centric" view of copyright enforcement, and teaching others to
consider not just the legal, but moral side of intellectual property
acquisition, use and re-use. Heated discussion to follow.
