[CALIBK12] pets in the library

When I was a classroom teacher, I had an Emperor Scorpion in my
classroom as the class pet. The students were fascinated by it, and on
rare occasions, I would actually catch a cricket and eat it during the
day. It survived quite well over weekends. We just had to make sure it
had a shallow dish of water.
The coolest part of having it was that I could pick it up by its tail
(they are pretty docile), set it on my arm and walk around with it to
give them a closer look. The rule for my students was...you can look
but you can't touch. That might creep a few of you out, but it was a
fun thing to do.

Subject: [CALIBK12] pets in the library
Just wondering if anyone has pets in the library that they would
recommend. We had praying mantis egg sacks that hatched, grew, bred,
hatched again, grew, and died. It was a huge, huge draw. Now our
little aquariums/terrariums are empty and the kids are hankering for
more. We are trying to build something of a menagerie here. We also
have a specimen of a baby shark in a jar (yuck) that they love.
Anyway, I was thinking hermit crab, lizard of some sort.... Something
that would survive over the weekend. Any suggestions?
