Friends: Just got an announcement about this play at the Long Beach
Playhouse and though some of you in the Southern California (Long Beach)
area might be interested. Tickets are very reasonable and parking (get there
at 7:30 - carpool if possible) is free in their lot. There is also street
parking at the back entrance to the parking lot. There are two stages - this
one in the studio theater is upstairs. Sorry, due to the age of the building
there is no handicap access/no elevator for the upstairs theater. (The main
stage downstairs is accessible, but this play isn't showing there). I have
not yet seen the play, but most of the productions in these theaters are
pretty good if not wonderful. My husband and I have had season tickets for
two years now along with another couple and have enjoyed just about every
one. You do not need to dress up for this theater but bring a light sweater
or jacket as sometimes the theater can be cool. The evening plays usually
run until about ten p.m. or a little later.
The theater is about 5 minutes from CSLB across the street from a golf
course and up the street from Frenchy's restaurant (which I'm not
recommending but just to give you a general location and landmarks you may
be familiar with). You can drive through from the street address to the back
parking area but we usually drive in from the back side street. If you go,
please let me know if you enjoy it!

Bunbury
A Serious Play
For Trivial People
by Tom Jacobson
Directed by
Robert Craig
When he finds out that he is only a fictitious character who never appears
in The Importance of Being Earnest, Bunbury uses his double anonymity to
infiltrate and alter classic literature, starting by accidentally giving
Romeo and Juliet a happy ending. The resulting transformation of such
classics as The Three Sisters, A Streetcar Named Desire, Waiting for Godot,
and even Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven spawns a new sub-discipline in literary
criticism and may even change the world. A comedy that proves everyone's
life means something-even if they don't exist.
