How 'bout discouraging plagiarism which is a form of theft?
Returning books that one borrows.
Sharing materials.
Consideration for others and expected behavior in libraries --- I hear that some public library staff run screaming at 3:00 pm when the public schools get out!
Compliance with internet policies that forbid going to chat rooms
Intellectual freedom as expressed in the selection policy; defending the First Amendment
Talk about the School Library Bill of Rights which is a modified version of the Library Bill of Rights from American Library Association
You can make a strong case that libraries are essential for a society to remain free, and that public school librarians instill an attidute and appreciation that supports
    what the Constitution is safeguarding.

I have been asked to speak to a group at an awards luncheon next week celebrating teachers who encompass character education in their regular teaching assignment.  I'm an experienced educator but brand new LMT as of this year.  Can anyone give me ideas or feedback about how librarians affect character education aside from directing students and teachers to books and materials?  I appreciate any feedback.
