[CALIBK12] [Bulk] e-books for high school libraries

I check out e-books from the San Jose Public Library on a regular basis. I
load them onto my Blackberry in Mobipocket format. I never thought I would
like to read in electronic format but I love it. They expire in 21 days and
I can check out up to 10 titles at a time. I don't have to worry about
getting them back on time or anything. When I'm going on vacation, I
download 10 and I don't have to take a suitcase full of books. There is a
limit to the number of users but I don' t know how many. Sometimes there is
a waiting list so I know it's limited. I do have some titles that I've
purchased in Mobipocket format and have permanently on my Blackberry. I have
a 1 gig card in my Blackberry so there's lots of room. One thing that's good
with Mobipocket is that I can create e-books from PDF and Word documents.
I've used it to do a few things that I want to carry with me. Mobipocket is
a free download. I've used it on a Palm Pilot and Blackberry. My biggest
problem with the OverDrive Digital Library that is the only one with
Mobipocket format at SJPL is that there are relatively few YA or Juvenile
titles. There are also audio books and Adobe E-book that are available from
SJPL.
By the way, if you're in an elementary school, check out Tumblebooks from
SJPL or try a free trial. I really like their online picture books and
readable audio books. They sent me a special 2 year offer that's good
through the end of May that would be very reasonable if I had any money.

Subject: [Bulk] [CALIBK12] e-books for high school libraries
The recent craze of the Stephenie Meyers novels is encouraging me to address
the waiting list issue. One easy solution would be to purchase the e-book
version of these titles. Have any of you purchased any e-books for your
library? If so, how are you dealing with all the issues such as security,
storage, and copyright infringement? What distributor are you purchasing
your e-books from? We are currently using Follett. Is it possible to allow
students access to e-books via our on-line library? Any additional
information or experiences regarding e-books would be greatly appreciated.
Please feel to reply to me off list.
