I agree with Tom. Your community will detemine the appropriateness, Although I do work at a high school, many of my students started reading the series in middle school and were asking me about the 4th during summer school ( I have 3 copies ready to take back with me, and I know that won't be enough). I would say that the fourth book does get a little more mature. Meyers never describes any sexual acts, but she has a way of making the reader understand what is going on. In other word, the scene is set. Without giving anything away, there really isn't anything inappropriate in any of the books althought the fourth book does have Edward and Bella taking the next step in many ways. I would suggest you read the series. It is a quick read and I thouroughly enjoyed it as an adult. It was a refreshing love story. I actually used it as a book club read for my teacher group last fall and they were all calling me this week to discuss the latest.

While appropriateness is one of those things that can vary widely by community, I can tell you that I have all three of the books in my library and have the fourth one on the way. It has proven quite popular in my middle school and I have not had any concerns raised.
