[CALIBK12] WASC handouts

Keep in mind that WASC is there to verify that a full program is in place.? But because WASC has no quantitative standards for high schools (they do for colleges and universities) they rely on your description for how the school feels about what it does.

Your administration probably hates WASC and hopes they go away for 6 years -- the maximum accreditation, so they want the report to be "positive."? These days that often means writing "creatively" about the services provided.

One way to get around this without being "negative" is to use the information in our CSLA resources as a checklist.? Make a column of services provided in a quality library, a second column on the status of those services at your library, and a column with a projection of what is needed to provide full service in the future.? Be creative and visual. Your Library Plan should guide you.

Your visitors will most likely NOT include a librarian and they come from other California schools, so they may not have a clue about what services should be in place.? When you provide a list, you show them what to look for.

After it is over, contact WASC and offer to be a site visitor.? It is a terrific experience.

I would also love the WASC handouts or any other helpful information CALIBers
have on WASC. We are just beginning our self-study and as a brand new LMT I need
guidance on what my role is and how best to highlight the library and our
services for WASC. Thanks!
