[CALIBK12] WASC handouts

Just a few thoughts on our last WASC review:
 
I did one thing on my own when the WASC visiting team was named for our last review. I searched the school site for each of the visiting team members' schools and looked at their libraries. It was a revealing picture of how their particular schools viewed the library. Only half of them even had a link to the library on the opening page of the school site. Some were very difficult to find and to me reflected the way the library was regarded at the school. Unfortunately, it also reflects the way school libraries and credentialed school librarians are regarded in our state. It did give me some insight when I spoke with each of them.
 
I participated as a member of a focus group and also reviewed the WASC documents for any place that touched on activities and goals that were supported by the library. Even if I wasn't in a particular focus group, I asked the chair of that group if I could report to them on a particular aspect of their focus. It worked very well and the other groups were always glad to get more information for their part of the report. The entire process was also an indication to me of the importance of collaboration with classroom teachers and how it contributes to the school as a whole.
 
Finally, we hosted in the library a school board and visiting team social event in the evening on the weekend before the visit began. Just a way to show off your library.

I would also love the WASC handouts or any other helpful information CALIBers have on WASC. We are just beginning our self-study and as a brand new LMT I need guidance on what my role is and how best to highlight the library and our services for WASC. Thanks!
