We (Native peoples) have so many dark moments in
history that need telling, but not in the way it
is done in DARKNESS UNDER THE WATER, a new YA novel.

Doris Seale, whose work some of you may know
(she's a co-editor of THROUGH INDIAN EYES and A
BROKEN FLUTE), and Judy Dow wrote an extensive
review essay of DARKNESS UNDER THE WATER, which
is about the Vermont Eugenics Project of the 1930s.

Many of you may be surprised to learn that here
in the US there was a Eugenics program, and while
you and students should learn about it, please
don't do so via DARKNESS UNDER THE WATER.

Seale and Dow's review is on my site today (Dec. 5, 2008).
