I just wanted to let everyone know that we had a one day visit to a school by Wendelin Van Draanen
This was their reward for participating in Exercise the Right to Read www.exercisetherightoread.org <http://www.exercisetherightoread.org/> , the program Wendelin announced at the 2006 CSLA conference. 
 
Wendelin is a fabulous presenter. She is so full of energy that several kids asked her if she had coffee that morning "Why, do you think I'm hyper?" she responded. They just nodded. One 5th grader told her teacher, "She's not like a normal adult," with a big smile on her face.  The kids were spellbound, not just by her personality, but by what she told them about writing and about running the NYC marathon. 
Her latest Sammy Keyes book is a candidate for the Edgar Award for children's mysteries, which will be her second Edgar. Her next book is called "Confessions of a serial kisser," - I read a preview copy -- despite the title it has a lot of depth.
