[CALIBK12] titles for high school boy

Book Thief is an EXCELLENT book.  
So is the newest book by Markus Zusak, "The Messenger," but character is
a 20 year old man.  I read a few chapters each evening while "running"
at the YMCA.  It is hard to put down, so it makes me dutifully return to
the Y to learn what happens next.  Read it before you recommend it to a
middle school student.  Better for a H.S. student because of the age and
issues.

I've promoted The Book Thief  by Markus Zusak because I really like this
young Australian author.  One student returned to tell me that it was
"the best book" he ever read.  Positive feedback from others too.

Hi everyone,
I have a picky reader, an 11 grade boy,  who enjoys realistic fiction.
But not gang related or sports related.  He recently enjoyed "I is
someone else" by Patrick Cooper. He is a good reader.  I really find
that there aren't a lot of choices for older boys, besides fantasy.  I
appreciate any help with titles that you can think of.
