[CALIBK12] Budget cuts - a "heads up"

"Don't forget the fax; it costs them money so the probability of them
reading it is high!"

Dear John (?) and others,

Please excuse me, but "it doesn't cost THEM." It may come out of their
operating budget, but it isn't THEM that is/are paying for the FAX. (Correct
me if I'm wrong, but) the "Them" that is paying the bills is US! WE, the
TAXPAYERS, (ultimately) pay for the faxes. On both ends - if it is an
out-of-the area phone call to fax, it is costing someone, and for
professional reasons, it should NOT be faxed on a SCHOOL FAX machine. If
folks want to fax from home, that's your prerogative, but using a school fax
for this purpose (which is, essentially, an employment/political issue for
us) is ethically (and probably legally) wrong. I would recommend sticking
with snail mail or email unless it is from your home fax.

Excellent suggestion. Many of our lawmakers are creating alternative email
addresses that they spend more time on than the official ones, mostly a
result of mass email messages being sent by groups that just add names. And
they believe, in many cases correctly, that a snail mail message was more
thought out than an email. But don't stop the emails if that is the only way
you'll get it done:)

I am on our district's Teachers Advisory Council. We meet with the
superintendent and discuss issues that are not covered in the contract. We
heard that many emails to our representatives in government positions are
not being counted. We were advised to write via snail mail and we would be
heard. I can only pass along what I heard, but I have a lot of confidence in
the sources.
